What do major triads sound like?

Bright, stable, and resolved — the major triad is the sound of "home" in Western music. Nothing in it wants to move.

How are they built?

Stack a major third and then a minor third: root, major 3rd, perfect 5th. The major 3rd is what makes it sound happy rather than sad.

What is their job in a progression?

The tonic function. Songs start here, end here, and measure every other chord's tension by its distance from here. It is also the I, IV and V of every major key.

Where you'll hear them

Everywhere: pop choruses lean on I–IV–V loops of plain major triads; rock power ballads spell them broken; children's songs rarely use anything else.

The beginner mistake

Beginners often over-press all three notes at different times. A triad only sounds like one chord when the three keys land together — practice a single relaxed drop of the hand, not three finger pushes.

Fingering logic

Three notes spaced a third apart sit naturally under fingers 1-3-5 — thumb on the root, middle finger on the 3rd, pinky on the 5th. The hand stays in one calm position.
