What do minor triads sound like?

Darker and more inward than major — sad is the cliché, but "serious" is closer. The lowered 3rd takes the shine off without adding any tension.

How are they built?

A minor third with a major third on top: root, minor 3rd, perfect 5th. Only one note differs from the major triad — the 3rd drops a half step.

What is their job in a progression?

The tonic of minor keys and the ii, iii and vi of major keys. It is a resting chord, like major — stable, just shaded.

Where you'll hear them

Ballads, film scores, and nearly every pop verse that wants weight before a brighter chorus (Am–F–C–G is the most-used loop of the last two decades).

The beginner mistake

Confusing which note to lower. Players flatten the 5th by mistake and get a diminished chord — much harsher than intended. Only the MIDDLE note moves.

Fingering logic

Same shape logic as major: 1-3-5. The half-step difference in the 3rd barely moves the hand; let the middle finger slide back without re-forming the shape.
